Shiatsu is a Japanese massage therapy utilizing a combination of pressure and assisted stretching techniques to maintain and promote health. Practitioners of Shiatsu apply pressure to acupoints, located all over the body. Once the proper flow of energy is restored, the body can begin its natural healing process and bring relief for most ailments. Shiatsu is performed on a floor-based futon and the client remains fully clothed. Shiatsu stimulates the circulation and the flow of lymphatic fluid, releases toxins and deep seated tension from the muscles, stimulates the hormonal and immune systems, and acts on the autonomic nervous system allowing deep relaxation and restoration.
Qigong Healing is a medical method of healing developed by the Chinese and used in their hospitals. Qigong Healing involves the use of the body's bio-electric energy. The Qigong healer projects this energy to the patient. The Chinese call this energy Qi (chee). Qigong Healing has been used successfully in the treatment of many problems that do not respond to drug therapy. Qigong has a rich and vivid history in China. Qigong's use dates back at least 5,000 years and was developed as a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In fact, all TCM utilizes the concept of energy and its distribution through the human body. Qigong is today utilized in many of the hospitals in China and its use is quickly spreading to many other parts of the world, including the USA. Qigong has been proven effective for the treatment of many problems including chronic problems such as hypertension, asthma, aging, allergies, cancer, cardiovascular and neuromuscular problems. It is especially effective in treating pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia and immune disorders such as chronic fatigue syndrome.
Several thousand years ago, East Asian practitioners discovered that the body forms disharmonies as a result of the various physical and mental stresses of life. Oriental medical theory explains these disharmonies as an imbalance of opposing forces called yin and yang. This imbalance disrupts the movement of the body's vital bioenergy (qi) along the meridian pathways, which are channels through which the body's energy is thought to flow. Acupuncture restores the smooth flow of qi. By inserting and manipulating needles at specific points on the body, I am able to return the body to its natural balance and promote the body's ability to heal itself.
